Das Steirereck Magazin
The creative world moves fast. That’s why we keep questioning our work, challenging familiar solutions, and staying curious. That mindset also shaped the redesign of Steirereck Magazin, created together with Birgit and Heinz Reitbauer.
Working with the minds behind one of the world’s most influential restaurants—awarded three Michelin stars and recognized among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants—reminded us why we love this field: creating experiences where every detail has a purpose.
After 13 years, the magazine entered a new chapter. Not to follow trends, but to set an anchor for the future. As Steirereck continues to shape the future of food culture, the magazine was reimagined for a new, younger generation of readers and conceived from a future-facing perspective.
Perspectives may shift, viewpoints – and sometimes even attitudes. But it is only the development of quality that creates something lasting.Perspectives may shift, viewpoints – and sometimes even attitudes. But it is only the development of quality that creates something lasting.
At the heart of the redesign is the evolution of the magazine’s iconic cover concept, photographed by Austrian still life photographer Bela Borsodi, who now lives and works in New York. While previous covers focused on portrait-like depictions of ingredients, the new visual language treats products more sculpturally, giving them even greater presence and character.
Known for his distinctive ability to transform everyday objects into unexpected visual compositions, Borsodi brings a sense of curiosity, tension, and imagination to the magazine’s imagery. The product takes center stage—even before the publishers’ names appear. A gesture that reflects a core belief of Birgit and Heinz Reitbauer: respect for the product comes first. Describing his work in the editorial, they write: “He rearranges the familiar, breaks with visual habits, and gives the protagonists of our cuisine – our ingredients – an almost surreal presence.”
Guided by the ambition to be “as timelessly contemporary as possible,” the new design balances clarity with subtle moments of surprise, creating rhythm, depth, and a renewed identity.
The result: Steirereck Magazin in a new light—carefully reimagined, thoughtfully crafted, and ready for the future.
